Understanding and Intervening in Informal Markets in Health

David Peters chairing the sessionOver the last few years we’ve done a lot of research to explore interventions that might make health markets work better for poor people. This work is premised on the understanding that markets for health-related goods and services are widespread and in many developing countries poor people seek some proportion of their health care in these markets.

Today’s session at the Global Symposium was structured around a series of 5 minute “lightening” presentations which gave an overview of the evidence and provided feedback on research from Bangladesh, Nigeria, Uganda and India.

You can view the slides from all of the speakers below.

Like many researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders interested in making health systems work better for poor people we at FHS are preparing ourselves for the upcoming Global Symposium. By the looks of things we will be busy. As well as organising a number of parallel sessions our researchers will be speaking in plenary, presenting posters and delivering papers in related events.

Please come to our sessions to find out more about our work. Download and print out the FHS_Global_Symposium_Flyer to get a sense of our diaries. We will have a stand in the conference market place if you want to come and pick up some of our reports and other resources or want to get in touch with a particular researcher. Jan Boyes will be managing the stand and she’s happy to help you out.

Woman with her child in ChinaThe Future Health Systems Consortium is a partnership of organisations conducting research in Bangladesh, China, India, Afghanistan and a range of African countries in order to improve health service delivery and health systems. We have a website where you can find more information on the organisations involved and download many of our publications.

Future Health Systems has started this blog so that we can provide swifter updates on what’s happening in our worlds. We will use it to provide feedback from conferences, let you know when new reports and papers are out, participate in conversations about the challenges that we face in our work and solicit your ideas.

Feel free to get in contact or share your views.
